Mary Mauck Inman, of Williamsburg, died Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary McSpadden Mauck was born on March 30, 1948, in Saltville, VA, to Joseph Leonard Mauck and Annie James McSpadden Mauck. After growing up in Marion, Mary graduated from Southwestern Business College. Mary married Tom Inman in 1975, and had two children, Matt and Kelly Quavé. Mary and Tom were married for 23 years, and together built Virginia Home Medical.

Inspired by the profound impact of her own parents’ deaths, she became a volunteer at Hospice of Williamsburg, where she advanced to Family Services Coordinator. In 1999, Mary coordinated the capital campaign for the construction of the Hospice House, where Mary became Program Manager. She epitomized the hospice philosophy in providing end of life support, dedicating herself to continued learning to better serve the community.

In 2005, Mary joined Dr. Mark Ellis in his newly established Peninsula Cancer Institute as Palliative Care Coordinator. Mary shared his integrative oncology philosophy, offering therapies to treat the whole person alongside traditional treatment. She continued to passionately serve patients and their families until her own pancreatic cancer diagnosis in January 2019.

In 2000, she met her current partner, Roger, while supporting his sister through hospice. Through their many wonderful years together, Roger and the family were impacted by the passion and generosity Mary brought to her life’s work, with family gatherings involving lessons in death and dying, always with an abundance of great food. She continued teaching until her final breath.

Granmary loved playing with her grandchildren, sitting on the beach with her sisters, and teaching family the names of birds who visited her many birdfeeders. Her love of football transcended team affiliation, and she had an uncanny knack for picking the Super Bowl champion at the start of each season.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, brother Joseph Leonard Mauck, Jr., and sister Betty Ann Mauck Ritter. Mary is survived by her partner, Roger Ticconi; son Matthew Inman and daughter-in-law Jennifer Inman; daughter Kelly Quavé Inman and son-in-law Harun Maktay; sisters Nancy Mauck Johnson and Sally Kelly Mauck and brother-in-law David Abrahamson; brother-in-law James Ritter; grandchildren Ian, Amy, and Jackson; and the father of her children, Thomas Inman. Mary has many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who will miss her dearly.

Due to the pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Mary’s honor can be made to the Dr. Mark E. Ellis Endowment Fund for Cancer Care Advancement through Riverside Health Foundation, or to Hospice House of Williamsburg.
