Chesapeake – Mary Pacheco Smithwick Griesbach, 91, known as Ms. Mary to all, is now with her Savior. Born in Phenix, Rhode Island on June 16, 1921, she was the oldest of 12 siblings. After her parents died, at the age of 13, she took over the raising of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Robert Smithwick and his wife Judy of Fort Myers, FL, and Ralph Smithwick of Summerlin Key, FL; daughter, Diana and her husband Rudy Cerny of Chesapeake, VA; step-daughter, Peggy and her husband Forrest Chappell of Virginia Beach, VA; step-son, Ken Griesbach of NY; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Cisper of Kansas City, MO. The family wishes to thank Comfort Care Hospice with a very special thanks to Tammy B. for her love, support and kind words. Ms. Mary loved gardening and fishing, but her greatest love was for her Lord and His church. She was a founding member of Lindale Church of Christ, now New Beginnings Christian Church. A service of celebration and remembrance will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11 am at Coastlands Community Church, 1119 Lindale Dr., Chesapeake, VA. with Mitch Caton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Beginning Christian Church, 2526 Rogers St., Chesapeake, VA 23324. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements.
