Mary Regina Howard passed away on October 26th, 2023 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mary was born in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Charles Paul and Regina Gertrude Gill. She attended Notre Dame College of Maryland and received her Law Degree from the University of Baltimore. Mary was groundbreaking, studying law when the profession was almost entirely male. She worked as a public defender and retired from the Social Security Administration in 1980.
Mary met her husband Jim at Social Security and they were married for over 46 years. They were active members of their community, attending mass at St Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, supporting the Boy Scouts, and advocating for good government.
Mary’s family was everything to her. In addition to raising her 3 children, she was integral in raising 4 of her grandchildren, whom she lived with after the passing of her husband. In her eyes, every member of her family could truly do no wrong. If any of them felt even slightly less than perfect, a quick call to MomMom was all it took to recognized how truly loved they were.
Mary is survived by her children, Jim Howard, Gina Briganti, Patrick Howard, their spouses Renae, John and Olda and her grandchildren, Anna Briganti, Jonathan Briganti, James Briganti, Anthony Briganti, and Elizabeth Howard.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, James Howard Sr., her brothers Charles James Gill and John Paul Gill and her sister Patricia Tilghman.
Funeral Services will be held at St Isaac Jogues Church in Parkville, MD at 11 am on November 20 with a reception to follow at the Hunt Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
