Melvin “Butch” Grey Blake Jr. passed away March 14, 2022 at Norfolk General Heart Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Butch was born June 29, 1962 to Melvin Grey Blake Sr. who passed prior to his son and Virginia Mae Spring.
Butch was gifted in his abilities to find work anywhere he lived, this was due to his work ethic and his undeniable ability to make a friend at every turn. He was a man of many skills, one of which was mailbox installations. He would build his mailboxes and market to those that were in need. This is how he would further discuss his handyman abilities and at times meet lifelong friends. Over the years, he honed his skills in drywall work and specialized in the painting of old and new constructions. Butch’s skills were unmatched by many and this is because of his desire for perfection.
Butch moved around a lot as he was quite nomadic, but he made the decision over three years ago to move to Chesapeake and make it his home. This transition was made so that he could be closer to family.
Butch is survived by son Derrick Green and daughter Tiffany Sweigart, mother Virginia Spring, Step-Father Joseph Spring and brother Ricky Blake as well as his fur-grandbabies that he adored. His absence has left a hole where a beautiful presence once was, his many friends and family will cherish his memory.
A memorial service will be held Sunday April 3, 2022 from 2:00pm to 5pm. at the American Legion Post 208:
