Merry Lynn Combs passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Virginia Beach when she lost her sudden battle with cancer. Merry was born Sunday, April 15, 1973 to the late Robert Franklin Combs and Pearl Ann Combs in Ithaca, NY. She was a graduate of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, and attended college at Tidewater Community College and James Madison University.

Merry’s bright sunshine spirit was apparent to all who knew her. She was cheerful, authentic, kind, empathetic, quirky, and had an uncanny ability for thoughtful gift giving. She loved photography, her dogs, antiques (especially quirky), the beach, and could be often found enthusiastically searching for sea glass treasures from the past on local beaches with her friends or nieces and nephews. Her family, friends, and dogs were dear to her. Her love of photography drew her to Richmond Camera, where she was the manager for 20 years. After that, her special connection and compassion for the elderly led her into elder caregiving.

Merry is predeceased by her father Robert F. Combs and brother Michael David Combs. She is survived by her mother Pearl Combs, sisters Cynthia Combs, Janelle Combs Morillo (Omar Morillo), and brother Robert Franklin Combs, Jr. (Holly Combs), 2 nieces, and 4 nephews.

Services are TBD. In lieu of flowers, contributions towards burial/memorial costs and services is suggested (Venmo @Janelle-Morillo).

I used to work next door to Richmond Camera and became instant friends with Merry. I loved talking to her about Madonna, No Doubt, Gwen Stefani, and more. I will miss your laugh and your pictures. You always had an eye for beautiful treasures. I am praying for your family, and I will hold these memories tight. <3 always!

Merry was full of passion and light, laughter and joy but what struck me the most was how she wanted to make others feel all those things too! May she forever walk the golden sands of endless time discovering all the wonders the worlds and may it fill her soul with all the love in the universe! Love ❤️ always

Merriest the most radiant light on earth was transformed into a seaster because her beacon is so bright it will help guide all that loved her from realms we don’t quite understand.

Merry was Sunshine on a rainy day....her smile was contagious and genuine, as was her laughter! I trusted her with the care of my children many yrs ago when times were tough and I needed someone I could trust, she was there n always willing to help ! Merry was a much loved friend from the beachcombing community. I tried to stay in contact with her this past year, and she was always just the kindest, sweetest, warmest soul without fail, and knew how to make you feel special. She will be missed. All my sympathies go out to her family and friends.

My heartfelt condolences to the combs family. Merry was a great friend. She was thousands of miles away from me but we still could have some fun together. She had inspired joy and quirkiness and a beautiful kind soul. I remember her telling me that she had the craziest dream that she flew to Australia and found the worlds smallest stopper. I will miss her so much but I know she is in peace now and will be in our hearts forever.

I knew Merry from the sea glass hunting world, and remember her as a kind, funny, and caring person. Her bright smile and sense of humour will be missed in our community. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this most lovely lady.

I grew up with Merry from Arrowhead Elementary thru Kempsville High. I gave her a pair of Madonna gloves for her birthday many years ago. She loved Madonna. I'll will miss seeing her photography and collecting sea glass posts on Facebook. Condolences to all. 🙏🙏

What a gift Merry was to us. She had her daddy mischievous twinkle in her eyes. Her mother's heart of kindness and compassion Our hearts are broken with each of yours. Yet, God in His mercy released her from her sickly body and long term illness. We carry you all in our hearts and prayers. The God of our Lord Jesus Christ the God of eternal (never ending always and forever) comfort comfort you. Hoping to join you for the celebration of Merry's life if possible. Dear Pearl and family, So sorry to hear about Merry. My Jamie has cancer and is in hospice. Hopefully Merry will welcome him in the next week or so when he’s in heaven. God bless you all and no matter what trust God!
