On August 29, 2023, Michael “Mike” Cornell Wiggins passed away in Virginia Beach, Virginia after a short battle with cancer.
Mike was born on April 30, 1943, to Cornell and Hilda Wiggins in Bellaire Ohio where he lived during his younger years. He spent his teen years living in Peoria Illinois and Terra Haute Indiana before moving back to Bellaire where he graduated from high school. He joined the Navy and served 21 years in the Navy Medical Service Corps before retiring as a lieutenant commander (LCDR). During his time in the Navy, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and an MBA from Webster University. After the Navy he spent time working in hospital administration and teaching college before settling into a career in real estate in the Hampton Roads area. Mike enjoyed being outdoors sailing and fishing and was active in the Boy Scouts throughout his life. He was also an avid wood carver and painter.
Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ronna, and their two sons, Michael and Matthew.
It was cancer that took him, but Mike struggled with Alzheimer’s the latter part of his life. The family asks that you consider a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
