Michael William Hanley, 67, born May 26, 1955 passed away peacefully at home after a recent and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loved ones on December 13th. Michael was most proud and passionate about his family and friends. His wife, children, and grandchild were his life’s most precious gifts. He felt most at home in the ocean surfing, and passed his love of surfing onto his son. He spoke fondly of his surfing trips in Costa Rica, Fiji, and Nicaragua.
He took great pride in his work at Towne Bank, where he was Director of Appraisal Services for over a decade. Michael also owned his own appraisal company for many years.
Michael is survived by his wife, Debra, his daughter Kelsey (Stephen), his son Michael, granddaughter Grace, sister Barbara (Alan), brother Joe (Kim), brother Tom (Gail), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Frances, as well as his sister Kathy.
A celebration of life will be held at The Attic at Waterman’s, 415 Atlantic Avenue, on Thursday, December 29th. Visitors are welcome to come and go and pay their respects to the family from 2pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
