I am sad to announce that my mother, Mildred Colley Nida, 86, of Norfolk, Virginia passed away quietly on September 12, 2023 at The Gardens of Virginia Beach after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born September 11, 1937, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, the fourth of seven children born to Alden and Ruth Colley. The family lived in Norfolk, Virginia where she attended Norview High School.
In 1958 she married Kenneth Nida. Their life together took them to Kansas and Louisiana. They had a son and a daughter. She worked for LPL Energy Company as a supervisor in the accounts receivable department for 15 years. After the death of her husband in 1991, she returned home to Norfolk, Virginia where she lived the remainder of her life.
Mildred loved to travel, golf, quilt and socialize. She was a member of Free Will Baptist Church, Virginia Beach (now known as Mission Church). She enjoyed worshiping there, until her health began to fade. There was always a ready smile on her face and she could and did talk to everyone she met.
Mildred is survived by one sister, her son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We will miss her dearly and know that life will not be the same without her, but we are incredibly grateful to have so many years with her.
We would like to give a special thank you to Mom’s caregivers and nurses during her final days. They were truly a blessing. We would also like to thank the family and friends that went by to visit and brought joy to her when she needed it most.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:30p.m. at Mission Church located at 210 S. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Please visit www.vacremationsociety.com to share memories and offer condolences.
