Millard Matthew Cull Sr, known to everyone as Matthew, passed away peacefully at home in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by his cherished family members during the early hours of January 21, 2023.
Born in 1938 in West Virginia, he was the oldest of 9 children of the late Hughey and Marie Cull. He remained there until he joined the US Navy in 1956 at the age of 18. The majority of his military service was spent stateside between Mayport, Florida and Norfolk, Virginia where he held the highest rank of Command Master Chief. Matthew traveled to various bases including Cuba and Vietnam to provide his vast knowledge and expertise to an extensive amount of military personnel.
Following his retirement in 1986, he returned to the Navy workforce as a civilian with the title of Marine Transportation Specialist for MSC. During this time he continued to be involved with various military operations, including assisting in the efforts of the Gulf War by continuing to train personnel. He retired from MSC in 2008.
Matthew spent many years with the love of his life, Beverly Cull. They were often found to be traveling or spending time with their grandchildren, and building the perfect life together. He had a strong passion for Christmas, family, fishing, bowling, and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is predeceased by his sons, M. Matthew Cull Jr. and James Cull. Left to cherish his memory are countless people to include his wife Beverly Cull; his children Annette Fearington (Matt) and Bruce Cull (Pam); his daughter-in-law and husband Kelly and Jerry Gray; his grandchildren Kellea Rhoney (Larry), Steffini Cull, Parker Mathias, Josh Mathias, Logan Mathias, Jackson Fearington, Zachary Fearington, Steven Cull, and Matthew Cull (Lauren); great-grandsons Colson Rhoney and Awesome Cull; backyard neighbors Susan & Larry Mathias; and extended family to include Becky & Mike Hudson, Troy Hudson (Kayla) and a host of siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday January 28, 2023 at Vineyard Church [4444 Expressway Drive Virginia Beach] led by Pastor Parker Mathias. Family will receive visitors in the home afterwards from 1:30 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society for Leukemia Research.
