Miyoko Wellons, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 5, 2024, in Virginia. Miyoko was born in Japan and later found her home in Virginia, where she touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness.
Miyoko had a passion for sewing and delighted in making clothes for herself and her daughter, Wendi. She was known for her culinary skills, particularly her love for cooking. An ultimate foodie, Miyoko cherished pasta, sushi, and mochi, as her favorite dishes. Her green thumb brought life to her garden, where she spent many peaceful hours tending to her plants. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite actor, Jackie Chan and listening to her favorite singer/actress, Hibari Misora.
Traveling and taking road trips brought Miyoko immense joy, especially when it involved shopping excursions. She adored her family and treasured the memories created with them. Miyoko’s life intertwined with that of Michael, whom she met while he was stationed in Japan with the US Navy in the late 1960s. They shared over 50 years of marriage filled with love and companionship.
Miyoko is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Wellons, her parents, Takeji and Kiku Nabeta and a brother. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wendi Wellons; her siblings residing in Japan; close family friends, Mitzi and Jim Tucker, who are more like family; cherished “adopted” children Susan and Brian; sister-in-laws Mary Wellons and Patricia Fisher; as well as numerous nieces and nephews both in America and Japan.
A private celebration of Miyoko’s life will be held in Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) in honor of Miyoko’s memory.
Miyoko will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her love, laughter, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. May she rest in peace.
