Mylene Vega-Heil, 38, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, in her home surrounded by the love of her closest family and friends after a long battle with leukemia. Mylene was at peace as she passed.
Mylene lived with her adoring and selfless husband, Bryan, and their energetic furball, Rylie the Goldendoodle. The two got married on June 14, 2014, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and remained in the Hampton Roads area surrounded by lifelong friends and loved ones for over nine years. Mylene and Bryan had one of those strong, storybook relationships. They could find happiness in each other anywhere. From sitting on a beach holding piña coladas or on their couch watching Guardians of the Galaxy for the 100th time with Rylie. They constantly renewed their passion and love for each other on their weekly date nights. Everyone knows how much Mylene loved posting about their next adventure and the fancy dinners that came with them. Those two were genuinely best friends, and that will remain forever. Mylene also loved to see the world with Bryan. They explored the Caribbean, Mexico, the West Coast, and up and down the East Coast. Mylene and Bryan even crossed the ocean to meet up with our family to tour Europe!
Mylene was born on December 2nd, 1984, in the Bronx, New York to Joaquina “Jackie” Altreche. She and her older sister, Jessica, lived in the Bronx with their wonderful and loving Mother, Jackie, and Grandmother, Edith Gonzalez, until their early passing. Jessica and Mylene moved to Chesapeake, Virginia to start the next chapter of their lives.
Upon arriving in Virginia at ages 14 and 11, the girls moved in with their uncle Tony, cousin Giovanni, and their Titi Janet and blended into the family and home naturally. They gained a father figure, a little brother, and an aunt who quickly filled the role of being a supportive mother during a period when they needed that most. Persevering through her childhood misfortunes and disadvantages, Mylene became a wonderful, powerful, and captivating woman who made our family outstandingly proud through all her accolades.
Mylene dedicated over fifteen years of her life to her career with Avis Budget Group. She was dedicated to working her way up the administrative ranks, even earning her Bachelor of Arts in Finance after completing night schooling. That made her one of the first members of our family to reach a higher level of education and show us that anything is possible. She truly influenced those in her sphere as she relentlessly pursued her goals despite any setbacks that arose.
When we asked two of Mylene’s most important people, her husband Bryan, and Titi Janet to describe some of her most admirable qualities, they did not hesitate. Mylene’s level of patience with others and ability to never look down on anyone are just two of her most special qualities.
They described the innate ability she possessed to pause and reflect before passing judgment on to others. She was soft-tempered with just about everything and everyone– except the Starbucks baristas who never could get her coffee order right.
In closing, while we will all profoundly miss our amazing girl, we all know she left us each a very specific last request –Celebrate the Wonderful Life she lived.
