Nathaniel H. Stevenson, Jr.
Longtime Tidewater resident Nathaniel “Nat” Stevenson passed away in Virginia Beach, Va. on February 29, 2016, at the age of 91. He was co-owner of Stevenson Uniform Service in Norfolk, Va. for over 60 years.
Nat was born in Norfolk in 1924. After graduating from Norview High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and trained to fly PBYs. After WWII, Second Lieutenant Stevenson went to Virginia Tech on the GI Bill, majoring in organic chemistry. Upon graduation he married Ella Vann Edwards “Eve”, the love of his life. They were together for over 66 years.
Early in his career, Nat worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Royster Fertilizer before joining his uncle, Marvin G. Stevenson at Stevenson Uniform Service.
Nat was a lifetime member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, serving as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Elder, and Trustee for many years. His favorite pastime was fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed snow skiing, tennis, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Nat is survived by his beloved Eve; daughter Jill of Greenbelt, Md.; and son Cliff, daughter-in-law Robin, and granddaughters, Jaime, Kelsey and Jordan of Downingtown, Pa.
Nat is preceded in death by his loving parents Nat, Sr. and Susie, and younger brother Terry.
The service of remembrance will be held at Holy Trinity Chapel, Westminster-Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2 PM.
