Natividad Rodriguez-Wewetzer

Natividad Rodriguez-Wewetzer, 70, passed away on May 1, peacefully in her sleep at home. Natividad was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1947 to Ramona (Aponte) Rodriguez and Antonio Rodriguez. At the age of 3 her family moved to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. Natividad spent her childhood in New York City as the youngest of 5 children. She earned a GED certificate and continued her education at the Bronx Community College while working as a bilingual para-professional teaching English as a second-language in New York City’s Public School #122. Natividad joined the Army at age 30 and served Honorably for 11 ½ years in the Signal Corps, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Her tours of duty included Italy, Panama, Arizona, Virginia, and lastly Korea where she met and married her husband Dean Wewetzer. Natividad was a believer in Jesus Christ and celebrated that relationship with family and friends, she studied the bible daily in her home and enjoyed discussing all aspects of the bible and biblical teaching. Natividad also enjoyed traveling and most recently traveled with her husband to London, England in September 2017 to celebrate 29 years of marriage while attending her Granddaughter Monique’s wedding (to Mat Hodgson).

Left to cherish memories of her are her husband Dean; her sisters, Gladys Rodriguez, Celina Aponte; sons, George, Antonio and wife Caroline, Eric and wife Jennifer; grandchildren George, Monique, Ezekiel, Nathan, David, Judah, Anthony, Noah, Natalya, Bruno and Isaiah; great-granddaughters Crimson and Mia; and many caring and loving extended family. Her remains will be cremated and her family and friends will join in a memorial celebration of her life in New York City in the summer.

Dean, Katy and I were in Italy at the same time. Her sons and my oldest daughter are still in contact, I think through a LAHS or Camp Darby group. I respected her and considered her a quiet professional in all she did. I last saw her in Korea about the time you two married. I wish I could have met you then. I know you will be missing this great lady for a long time, but thank the Lord for the years you had together. Please accept my condolences to you and pass them on to her sons and other family members.

I never was able to me my 2nd cousin, but last year she did a phenomenal job of creating a family page and ot allowed long lost family to reconnect, newly meet and share stories and pictures. She had the dame passion i do of family and no matter the distance, connecting. That you Nati. You will be missed.

I knew Katy in Camp Darby, Italy. We were involved in the Music & Theatre program there. I thought she was a wonderfully admirable person, particularly as a single Mom of 3 sons.
