Knightnor Jr (affectionately known as Gene and Geney Boy), 74, of Newport News , Virginia, passed away on October 2, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia due to complications from cancer and dementia. He was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1950 to Lucille Smith and Osborne E. Knightnor Sr. As a youth he was known to be his mother’s shadow and for performing/singing Duke of Earl for his aunts and uncles. He attended Huntington High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1971 until 1977. After serving in the U.S Marine Corp he worked as a horticulturalist for the city of Hampton. Taking care of nature as well as, “shooting some jumpers” (playing basketball), with his younger brother Charles were his favorite pastimes.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lucille Knightnor and Osborne Knightnor Sr., and brother Carl Knightnor. He was accompanied in passing with his younger sister Sarah Knightnor (February 15,1955 – October 2, 2024)., He is survived by his three daughters; Tamera Simpson, Miraj Bryan, Mystique Ford and siblings; Robert, John, Charles, Theresa, Ruth, Ida, and Carol Knightnor. His memories are also carried on by a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2pm at Cook’s Brothers Funeral Home; 1601 27th Street, Newport News VA 23607. The Repast will be held at Beau Brummel’s Civic and Social Club, 2623 Shell Road, Hampton VA 23661.
