Otis D. Mullen, 71, of Lanexa, VA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Norfolk General Hospital. He was undergoing emergency surgery for a femoral aortic aneurysm and died from complications.
Born July 31, 1948 in Fountain, NC, he was the son of the late William E. Mullen, Sr. and Verna Lee Lilly Mullen. Mr. Mullen was a former mechanic, electrician and independent trucker. He enjoyed auto racing, sailing, astronomy, photography, cooking and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William E. Mullen, Sr., his brother Herman Mullen and sister Wanda Mullen. He is survived by his children, Angela (Jeff) Hicklin, Dwayne (Sara) Mullen, Casey (Casey) Mullen, granddaughters Ellie Mackenzie and Violet Rose, and siblings William Jr., John, Lois, Robert, Joyce, Sam, James and their families.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 18 at Christ Community Church at 9001 Richmond Rd., Toano, VA, 23089. The service will be officiated by Pastor Randy Garner.
Mr. Mullen did not have life insurance, so his children and their spouses are paying for all funeral expenses. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to help cover these expenses. A Treasured Memories Funding account has been set up to help pay for cremation services, urn, obituaries, death certificates, memorial service guest book and cards, flowers and transportation fees for family members who live out-of-state. A donation will also be made to Christ Community Church (Toano, VA) and Pastor Randy Garner. If there are any remaining donated funds after all funeral expenses have been paid, a donation will be made in Mr. Mullen’s name to the American Heart Association.
