Patricia Ann Couch-Wood

Norfolk – After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, Patricia A. Couch-Wood, 77, was surrounded by her family and was called home by the Lord on August 24, 2017.

Patricia was born in Winston-Salem, NC. Her parents, Boyce and Sadie (Moore) Hunter as well as her brother, Boyce Avery Hunter preceded her in death.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a young woman she married Ernest N. Couch and had three daughters. Although later divorced she felt blessed to remarry Oren M. Wood in 1999. Patricia had an Associate’s Degree in business. She enjoyed secretarial work in several school systems throughout her life retiring in 2000 from Shelton Park Elementary School.

She loved attending church, playing the piano, singing, and children. She also loved to exercise and ran in several marathons. Patricia touched several lives in a meaningful way. Which her family and friends can attest to. One of her favorite sayings was: “Nothing fails faster than not trying”.

Patricia is survived by her beloved husband Oren M. Wood; loving daughters, Cynthia (John) Laramie of Rio Linda, CA; Rebecca (LeeAllen) Leier of Rugby, ND; and Elizabeth (Robert) Podnar of Norfolk, VA; cherished siblings, Frances Hampton of Virginia Beach, VA and Ronald Hunter of Chesapeak, VA; 10 amazing grandchildren and 18 wonderful great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved neighbors and friends; as well as her very special life long friend, Cassie Rockey of Lincolnton, NC, who will all mourn her passing.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
