Patricia ”Patti” Ann Pair Brown, 67, passed away on January 31, 2021. Patti was a lifelong Hampton resident preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Robert Pair; sister, Sandra Glenn; and son, Corey Brown.
Patti led an adventurous life starting as a teenager when she took off hitchhiking around the country. Those times in her life were just the beginning of her wanderlust spirit and love of travel. Over the years she made many trips to Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, bluegrass festivals in Virginia and other fun places where she could enjoy music, family, friends or what she called “cha chinging”. Twice a year she would take her Mom and her friend Maude on a road trip to PA to visit family. Just this past year she purchased an RV with plans to spend more time on the road than at home.
Patti had a special and close relationship with her younger sister Sandra or as she would say “Seester”. Their bond was one of love, fun and family with many great times spent together be it girl’s day at the beach, camping at Graves Mountain or whatever fun was going on at the time like the St. Patty’s parade in Ocean View. Patti was “adopted” by Sandra’s in-laws, The Glenn’s, where Patti joined in many of their family get togethers. The “Seesters” are now reunited in the presence of the Lord with Corey, Francis and others rejoicing their reunion.
Patti was blessed with two remarkable sons who she loved more than anything. Patti was the “cool” hippie kind of mom but she didn’t take any mess either. Patti had a way of saying what was on her mind in a no-nonsense way that you knew she meant business. Michael Dean and Corey brought her so much joy and the extra special blessings of grandchildren. Known as Nina to her grands she was so proud of them and loved to take them out for Sunday breakfast before heading to Sunday services at church.
A strong woman of Christian faith Patti was devout in her beliefs. We can all rest assured that Patti is resting in the holiest place of all with her Lord and Savior. Patti told her friends many times over the years that she was ready anytime the Lord called for her and that time arrived unexpectedly for those of us left behind to mourn her.
Patti was a friend to many. Her giving spirit, her feisty personality, her larger-than-life presence and devout faith are the gifts she shared with all who came to know her and will be what is remembered in the days, weeks and years ahead. Patti gifted a many a friend one of her handmade wash clothes or this past year a mask to protect you. She loved sewing, knitting, games like Scrabble or Bones and was an avid reader.
Patti retired from the Hampton VA hospital in 2018 as an RN. Working third shift for many years in the Domiciliary she loved her Veterans and was proud to help them through trying times. To get her RN license Patti worked full time as an LPN and went to Hampton University full time at the same time. How she was able to make it through those years is a testament to her tenacity and strength. If Patti set a goal, she went for it with gusto.
Patti is survived by her son, Michael Dean Hampton (Britani); granddaughters, November “Nova” Skye Hampton, Nicolbi Sandra Hampton and Melissa Dawn Hampton; grandson, Nathaniel “Nate” Joseph Link; brother, Robert Kent “RK” Pair and his family; brother-in-law Eddie Glenn and his family, as well as, many cousins and oodles of friends who were like family.
The family is having a private memorial service Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 p.m. Due to current Covid restrictions the church has limited capacity so the service will be live streamed on the Memorial Baptist Church Facebook page as well as being streamed on Patti Pair’s Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Memorial Baptist in memory of our loved one, Patti. Memorial Baptist Church, 317 Lee Street, Hampton, VA 23669.
Rest in Peace sweet lady, you will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of Patti’s life will be held in the spring so her loved ones can gather outside in the fresh air and sunshine to share memories and toast a life well lived.
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
