Patrick Michael Beck, 67, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022 at his home in Suffolk, Va., with his wife by his side. Michael was born April 4, 1955, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth to the late Geraldine Austin Beck and Patrick William Beck of Norfolk. The family moved from Norfolk to Virginia Beach when Michael was in elementary school and Michael soon discovered the joys of riding waves. Whether the surf was big and burly or small and clean, Michael would be out there in the lineup, always with a smile on his face. He exhibited the same joy when playing guitar and writing music, gardening, working around the cabin he built in the mountains outside Charlottesville, or just hanging out with friends. Michael recently retired from the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority after a 29-year career, most recently as a construction inspector. After retirement he and his wife of 26 years, Tracy Lee Anderson, moved from Norfolk to Suffolk. In addition to Tracy, Michael is survived by his brother, Jeffrey Austin Beck of Virginia Beach, extended family and many friends. A memorial and celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.

I find this sad news as I recover from open heart surgery. Mike was my next door neighbor in Hilltop, VaBeach. We went to school together and got into plenty of mischief as well. Didn’t realize he had been suffering.
Mike was very talented, kind, compassionate and funny. May his next journey be with fair winds and blue skies. Condolences to his family.
