Patrick T. Bauer, 74 years old of Newport News, VA passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12th, 2022. Born in Durand, Wisconsin on March 17, 1948. As a child of a military family, and after many duty stations, the family ended up in Newport News where he graduated from St. Vincent’s in 1966. After high school, he enrolled in the apprenticeship program at NASA and had a lifelong career as a civil engineer, testing planes and the space shuttles in the wind tunnels. He retired in 2010 after 40 years of service.
He had a love for cars and working in his garage, fixing friend’s vehicles and working on his beloved Chevy Nova, HOT CHOCOLATE that he raced at Suffolk Speedway. Patrick loved his family and friends and loved to treat them out to eat. There wasn’t a meal he didn’t like!
Patrick is survived by his oldest daughter and son in law, Brook & George Thornton and also his youngest daughter, Brandi Strickland. He has 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn Abbott (Austin Abbott), Michael Thornton and Samantha Thornton. He also has a newborn great-grandson, Parker Abbott. He has 3 siblings, Gregory Bauer (Jody), Joseph Bauer (Ann) and Kristine Bauer. He also has 4 nephews, Nicholas Carpenter (Stacey), Daniel Carpenter (Lauren), Justin Carpenter (Jasmine) and Nathan Bauer.
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Rt. Col. Keith and Kathleen Bauer, his sister Kathryn Carpenter and nephews Jessie Bauer & Kevin Carpenter.

A Celebration of Life service will be a casual event (Dad didn’t like formal events so please dress as you would like) as we celebrate the things he loved. Service will be held on Dec 31st at 1pm at Grafton Baptist Church, 5440 George Washington Mem. Hwy, Yorktown, VA.
