Randolph “Randy” Winstead, 94, passed away February 5, 2021 and his bride of 74 years, Erna Hintenaus Winstead passed away February 20, 2021, both from Covid-19 complications. Randy was born in Rocky Mt., North Carolina July 3, 1926 and Erna was born March 22, 1926 in Wels, Austria. As Randy turned 18 and along with so many of his friends, he left N.C. heading to Europe for WWII. While stationed in Wels, Austria he met his bride and returned to the U.S. only to be sent shortly thereafter to Korea. After over 23 years of Army career assignments around the world, Randy retired and they moved to Maryland, having been stationed there years earlier. After a second career as an executive with B. Green & Co. in Baltimore, Randy and Erna moved to Florida enjoying golf and leisure travel with family and friends. Just over six years ago they moved up to Williamsburg to be near family.
Randy and Erna are survived by their daughter, Evelyn (Eve) Deal of Williamsburg; son, Ronald (Ron) Winstead and his wife, Robin of W.VA; grandson, Scott Walker and his wife, Anita of N.C.; granddaughter, Leigh Clayton and her husband, Chris of MD; grandson, Ronald Winstead and his fiancé, Ashley of VA; and their great-granddaughter, Maizey Clayton of MD. They also have extended family in NC, and Wels, Austria. They were a modest, big-hearted couple that loved family and friends and will be deeply missed.

At the appropriate time, Randy and Erna will be honored with a military cemetery service.
