Virginia Beach, VA – Raymond Andrew Given, 78, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at his home.
Born September 24, 1930 in Upland, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew James Given and Ethel Hall Given. Mr. Given was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, was a member of FRA and retired as an electrical engineer from the Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Center. He was an active member of Haygood United Methodist Church where he was a past president and song leader of the J.O.Y. class. He was also a communion steward and song leader for the 8:30 worship service in the chapel. He was a volunteer for many organizations including Hermitage Elementary School and received the Presidents Honor Award and life membership in the PTA.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Given; three children, Raymond A. Given, Jr. and wife, Kim, William Given and wife, Kenna and Lori Hoffman and husband, Jay; three grandchildren, Katharine, Lauren and Michael; one brother, Andrew J. Given, Jr. and wife, Betty; one sister, Eleanore Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Givens devoted caregivers, Martha Tickner and Herb Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Haygood United Methodist Church, 4713 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the church. Cremation Society of Virginia, Hampton Roads Office is assisting the family.
