Raymond Ojeddo Scott III “Scottie”, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on January 18, 1950, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Scottie was the beloved son of Raymond Ojeddo Jr. and Jessie Poe Scott. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Scottie lived a life full of passion, purpose, and deep love for those around him.

Scottie had an incredible zest for life. He poured his heart into coaching youth sports, found joy in sled dog racing, and loved working in his shop. But above all, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family. His love for them was the foundation of everything he did.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda, who was the center of his world; his oldest daughter Renee (Laura), his youngest daughter Jessica (Derek) and their children Kaiden, Easton, Piper, and Lawson; and his son Derek (Deena) and their children Kinslee, Avery and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Ojeddo Jr. and Jessie Poe Scott, and his sister, Jessie Scott Reeves.

Scottie had an extraordinary gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. His infectious laugh, playful humor, compassionate heart, and gentle soul left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He made people feel like family—whether he had known them for years or just a moment.

He was a blessing in the lives of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of Scottie’s life will be held on Friday, March 21, at 1:00 PM at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. All are welcome to join the family in honoring his memory. A reception will follow.

Oh, my. The memories of US. Your precious children growing up and mine having the benefit of you and Scottie in their lives...Scottie helping me on your horse, Scottie installing my storm door, you all coming to Kill Devil Hills and the sharing of what family and friends be....Scottie's work ethic matched yours and the bar was so high. God created a good man.

Remember Linda and Ray from when my children and their Children were in school together. Know he will be missed by his family and friends. May God be with you all at this difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss. Scottie was such a great guy. I met him while building Grassfield High School and he was one of the nicest, funniest and thoughtful person I had the pleasure of knowing.

Last week, I attended Greenbrier Middle School’s 25th Anniversary. As a sat in the auditorium and listen to speakers, I could not help to remember Scottie. Because it was there that he and I put together the chorus stands. I recall writing our names on the back of them and wondering if one day someone would look back and wonder who these two guys were. Scottie was so helpful to the entire staff as we completed that first year. He was loved and appreciated by all. He always loved a story and he loved to laugh. He will be missed!

Linda & Scotty were such a lovely couple, and I will always remember Scotty's smile. My thoughts, prayers, and love are with you, Linda, and your family.
