Rebecca Joyce Luce, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 63. Born on February 1, 1962, in Newport, Rhode Island, Rebecca lived a life filled with passion, adventure, and love.
Rebecca dedicated her professional life to serving as a Human Resources Specialist with the Federal Government. Her colleagues and everyone who crossed paths with her could attest to her unwavering dedication and kindness. She was a beacon of support and guidance to those she worked with, always striving to create a harmonious and productive work environment.
Beyond her career, Rebecca found joy in the simple and beautiful moments of life. An avid kayaker, she cherished the serenity of gliding across calm waters. She also loved walking through the Botanical Gardens, where nature’s beauty always inspired her. Rebecca had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, especially alongside her mother, Mickey Giles. Her favorite destination was England, where she marveled at the rich history and stunning landscapes.
Rebecca’s greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren. She delighted in their laughter and stories, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love left an indelible mark on them all.
She was also a proud member of the Virginia Zoological Park community, where she appreciated the wonders of wildlife and conservation efforts.
Rebecca is survived by her loving family: her children, Elizabeth and her husband, Kyle, and Timothy and his wife, Kayly; her adored grandchildren, Anthony, Noah, Michael, Julie, and Nathaniel; her devoted mother, Mickey Giles and Tom; her brothers, Benjamin and his wife, Kim, and Scott and his wife, Sharon, along with their children, Joyce and Bryan. Her presence in their lives was a profound gift, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Rebecca’s life will be held at a later date at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, a place she held close to her heart. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made in her memory to causes that celebrate and protect the natural world she so dearly loved.
Rebecca’s radiant spirit and compassionate heart will forever inspire those she leaves behind. May her legacy of love, adventure, and kindness continue to flourish in the hearts of those she touched. The family states if desired that flowers may be sent to Elizabeth’s residence.
