Rhea Lee Walker, Jr. – Virginia Beach

Rhea Lee Walker, Jr., 97, died September 28, 2011 in Sentara Leigh Hospital. He was born June 11, 1914 in Norfolk, Virginia. Rhea was a graduate of Maury High School Class of 1932. He attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary/Virginia Tech and played on the football team from 1932 to 1934. Rhea worked for 50 years with HaIl Hodges Company, retiring as Vice President. Rhea was a Founder and Charter Member of Community United Methodist Church. He was a past Master of Owens Lodge, past President of the Builders and Contractors Exchange, past President of the Cosmopolitan Club, member of the Kempsville Ruritan Club, member of the Princess Anne Country Club and served on the Planning Commission of Princess Anne County. He was predeceased by his wife of 7l years Nellie Carrow Walker. He is survived by two sons; Rhea L. Walker, Ill and wife Patricia of Walters, Va. and Robert R. Walker and wife Cindy of Virginia Beach; a grandson, Lee B. Walker of Virginia Beach; three grand-daughters, Byerley W. Myers and husband James of Chesterfield, Va., Jennifer L. Walker of Virginia Beach, and Lindsey D. Scanlon and husband Rick of Stafford, Va; two great grandchildren, Bailey and Banks Myers.

A Memorial Service will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Va. at 10:30 am Friday October 14, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can he made to Community United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.

Bobby, Rhea & Family, We were all quite saddened to read of your Dad's passing. He was a real gentleman who I always enjoyed talking with whenever I saw him. He was one of the terrific men that made up the class company known as Hall-Hodges. Please know that you all are in our prayers. Remember the good times with your Mom and Dad. I was very sorry to read of your father's death. His association with my family began in 1956 when my soon-to-be husband, Bill Bumbalough, began working at Hall-Hodges as an apprentice draftsman at age 19. A wonderful 42-year- relationship followed until Bill's death in 1998. Mr. Walker attended his funeral and precipitated a generous memorial gift to our church. Both out children, Paul & Laura, had summer jobs at H-H, Paul earning monies that supplemented his tuition to Duke University where he's been a staff member for 27 years. Mr. Walker was a favorite of Bill, Paul & Laura, a consumate Southern gentleman who touched our lives in countless ways. My sincere sympathies on the loss of your loved one.

Bobby, Rhea and family, So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Your Mom and Dad were two special people in our lives. Many good times on the OBX, Sea Ranch and the all important HOKIE games in Blacksburg. He was definitely the consumate HOKIE!! Your Mom and Dad were such a special couple...I'm sure your Dad is rejoicing with their "reunion" having been so lost wen your Mom died. We loved them both and they'll always be remembered with love and a smile.
