Richard (Dickie) Allen Lyons, 85, passed away peacefully at his Virginia Beach home on Friday, March 14, 2025. Dickie was born March 4, 1940, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital to William Howard Lyons and Elizabeth Cahill Lyons. He was a graduate of Meadowbrook Elementary, Princess Anne High School (1958) and Old Dominion University.
Dickie excelled at sports and was named to many all-star teams in basketball, football, and wrestling. His love of wrestling led him to become a high school referee and ultimately the local referee commissioner. He married his high school sweetheart June Elmore. They shared many adventures in their 54 years together. Highlights included their love of travel, skiing and card games. Dickie spent over 25 years at State Farm Insurance as a Claims Adjuster and Fraud Investigator. He was active in Sertoma Club and a member of Broad Bay Country Club.
In addition to being predeceased by his parents, Dickie was predeceased by his wife June Elmore Lyons, sisters Virginia Harschutz and Elizabeth Lascara, and brother William Howard Lyons II. Left to cherish his memory are son Bret (Christi) Lyons, Virginia Beach, and daughter Richelle (Loren) Lyons Burnett of Boulder County, CO. Virginia Beach grandsons are Richard (Bri) Lyons, William Lyons, and Vincent Lyons. Colorado grandchildren are Cielle Burnett, Devi Burnett, and Zander Burnett. Step-grandchildren are Ashley (Andrew) Price of Anderson, SC and Brendan (Amanda) Burnett of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Richard and Bri’s daughter, Sadie Jae Lyons, is his only great-grandchild.
