Richard Bacon Howard
Virginia Beach – Richard Bacon Howard, passed away at Atlantic Shores on January 24th, 2017. He was born in Washington DC, on July 11, 1936 to Adm. William Eager Howard Jr. and Frances Bacon.
As with every Navy family, Richard spent his formative years living in various parts of the United States. Early on, he developed a passion for knowledge and learning that lead him to a successful academic career; graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University, a Fulbright Scholarship spent in France, and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. His love of languages, culture and travel led him to pursue a successful career with the U.S. State Department, serving in the Middle East and six Latin American tours.
An avid photographer and traveler, Richard thoroughly enjoyed all of the rich experiences afforded to him during his thirty-seven year career as a dedicated U.S. Foreign Service Officer. He was a loving, devoted husband and father who persevered to raise four children.
Preceded by his wife, and love of his life, Maria and her son Ricardo, he is survived by his three children – Eric Howard, Denise Howard Stolle, Richard Howard Jr., Maria’s daughter-Diana Taylor, and nine grandchildren.
