Richard L. Knight Sr.
Virginia Beach – Richard L. Knight Sr. departed this life on May 1, 2017. He was born June 6, 1931 in Norfolk, Va. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; son Richard and wife Kathryn, son Tom and wife Janet; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
He retired from the Army after 28 years, serving 2 tours in Germany, 2 tours in Vietnam earning the Air Medal, Bronze Star for meritorious achievement, and the Meritorious Medal for outstanding achievement. He earned his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University under the Army’s “boot strap” program. He was past president of the Norfolk Sports Club and was Sportsman of the year in 2009. He founded the Kempsville Covenant for Habitat for Humanity. A life member of the United Methodist’s Men’s Club. Past president of the Kempsville Ruritan Club. Active in the Fairfield Civic League. He organized many golf tournaments for the Yellow Ribbon Fund to support Wounded Warriors. An avid golfer, he made 4 holes in one, treating everyone present at the 19th hole.
A memorial service will be held at Community United Methodist Church 1072 Old Kempsville Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 on May 11th at 11:00am with a reception to follow in the social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or your favorite charity.
