Richard “Dick” Wayne Harris, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston Women’s Hospital on June 22, 1933 to Walter Jay and Eleanor Barlow Harris. After graduating from Somerville High School in Massachusetts, he joined the Marines during the Korean War. After his service, he started his career in the Entertainment and Leisure Foods Industry by managing a resort in Lake George, New York. He went on to work for Schraftt’s, Canteen, Stouffer’s, and finally Ogden Food Services at the Scope in Norfolk.
Nothing was more important to Richard than family. He was married to the love of his life, Mildred Fling Harris of Ainsworth, Nebraska, for 58 years. Together they raised one son, Jeffrey Jay Harris. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His kindness, humor and concern were felt by everyone he met along his journey. His true passions were fly fishing, duck hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren sharing his love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Millie; son Jeffrey and wife, Nicole; grandsons Benjamin Harris and Andrew Harris; nephews Jay Harris and David Harris; and niece Dawn Collins. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald Harris.
A celebration of his life will be held at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Princess Anne in Virginia Beach on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
