Richard Wayne Owens was born on November 3, 1952 in Newport News Virginia. He passed away peacefully at age 72 on March 10, 2025 in his beloved hometown. Richard attended Huntington High School where he built a network of lifelong friendships. Richard was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding. He loved sports and enthusiastically supported the Washington Commanders and Boston Celtics, which brought him camaraderie and many lively conversations with family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Martin V. Owens Sr. and Evora W. Owens, his son Richard W. Owens Jr., his grandson Richard W. Owens III, his sister, Eartha Terrell and his brothers Martin V. Owens Jr., Paul W. Owens Sr., Willie Douglas Owens Sr., William E. Owens and Russell E.Owens . He leaves behind his sisters, Alethia F. Washington, Barbara A. Scott, Jean J. Owens, Paulette T Anthony (Raymond), Pamela E Yeldell (Dennis), grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richards life was a testament to love, friendship and perseverance. His memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their gratitude at this time to Riverside Hospice and Old Dominion Nursing Home.

I remember Ricky from our times at Huntington High School and East End. He was a jovial, kind and outgoing guy. He had his challenges in life, but always respectful when I would see him.
