Richard William Carl, affectionately known as Dick or Doc, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family in Virginia Beach, VA.
Dick was the first in his family to attend college, ultimately becoming a dentist in Ellettsville, Indiana, where he served his community with care and dedication for over 30 years. He also held a respected position on the Board of Directors for The Peoples State Bank for many years.
Beyond his profession, Dick’s true passion was music, and he delighted in playing his trumpet, continuing to play well into his mid-80s. He was also an avid outdoorsman, spending weeks each year camping in Quetico Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. After retiring from dentistry, he and his beloved wife, Judy, cherished nearly 20 years traveling the world together.
Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Judy; his children Chelle (Mark) Ver and Trish (John) Fritz; his grandchildren Ian (Erika) Ver, Alex (Stephanie Koci) Ver, and Storm Fritz; and his great-grandson, Carsen Ver. He also leaves behind his brother Butch (Rhonda) Carl and sister Debbi (Mike) Wolf, as well as many other relatives and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 2 PM at Kings Grant Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, where Dick was a member. The event will also be livestreamed, accessible through their website: www.kgpc.org and will be available on their YouTube channel afterwards.
