Surrounded by his family, Robert “Bob” Everleigh, 83, passed away on Monday, September 17th. Bob will always be remembered for his love for family, unwavering faith, caring spirit, sense of adventure and his LOVE of North Carolina BBQ! Born in Lumberton, NC, he was the son of Carl and Elizabeth Everleigh. He attended NC State before joining the U.S. Air Force. After the Air Force he attended Western Carolina University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He retired from Wyle Laboratories as Contracts Manager. An avid golf fan, he spent many an hour teaching his grandsons how to play the game. Bob was an active member of Orcutt Baptist Church and was a deacon for 40 years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Fran of 58 years, his two daughters, Wendi Everleigh, and Jeanne Breitbeil and her husband Steve, his two wonderful grandsons, Jake and Zachary Breitbeil, who were his pride and joy, sister Virginia Ashley, brother Carl Everleigh and his wife Ailene, brother-in-law Pete Apple and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Apple, Doris E. Taylor, Sara Carrowon and her husband Tom, brother Donald Everleigh and brother-in-law George Ashley.
A celebration of life was held at Orcutt Baptist Church, 653 Baxter Lane, Newport News, 23602 at 12 pm, Saturday, September 22nd. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orcutt Baptist Church, or the Peninsula Rescue Mission, PO Box 377, Newport News, VA 23607.
