Robert George Lockwood, 91, passed away peacefully February 5, 2016. Born February 14, 1924 in Sandusky, OH, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Irma Dennis Lockwood. He served his country in the United States Navy retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer after 24 years. Using his knowledge and skills from the Navy, he worked and later retired from Vitro Corporation after 20 years of service. Robert was Past Master of Ocean View Lodge #335 AF&AM, Affiliated Past Master of Kempsville Lodge #196, and former member of Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Norfolk United Royal Arch Chapter #1, Allied Masonic Degrees, and Ocean View Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star. He was instrumental in forming the Virginia Demolay Foundation where he served as Advisory Council Chairman – Oceanview Priory, Order of Knighthood, and District Deputy of the Eastern Region Demolay. He was an avid gardener as well; belonging to the Virginia Beach Master Gardeners and volunteering over 2000 hours of his time.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 67 years, June D. Lockwood; daughters, Darlene S. Lavender of Charleston, SC, and Deborah S. Crawford (George) of Cadillac, MI; sons, Robert D. Lockwood (Janet) of Virginia Beach, and David S. Lockwood (Peggy) of Walters, VA; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at 2pm with visitation at 1pm at Haygood United Methodist Church. Please visit vacremationsociety.com to offer condolences to the family.
