Robert I. Thomas, Jr.

Virginia Beach – Robert Irvin Thomas, Jr., 79, passed away Aug. 25, 2014. Born Aug. 19, 1935 in Lynchburg, VA., he was the son of Robert and Gladys Thomas. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and attended VA Tech. He retired from United Parcel Service as a Divisional Manager.
Survivors include his son Robert K. Thomas, wife Margaret and two grandchildren, Jay and Anne Carter Thomas, all of Richmond; daughter, Lea T. Olson of New York City; sister, Becky and husband Frank Chesnick of VA Beach; and a nephew, Patrick Boland of New York City.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Sally. They were married for 52 years.
He was a member of VA Beach United Methodist Church, Princess Anne Country Club, UT-Prosim Society of VA Tech, and Hokie Century Champion.
A service of remembrance will be held at VA Beach United Methodist Church, 19th St. and Pacific Ave. at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28th, officiated by Rev. Benson McGlone. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VA Beach Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice. Cremation Society of VA is assisting the family.
