Robert Rockefeller, 91, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on September 19, 2023. He was born on February 27, 1932, in Hempstead, New York. Bob was a devoted family man and a retired Master Chief Petty Officer (EMCM E9) with 20 years of service in the Navy.
During his time in the Navy, he served as a crewman on the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine and the first submarine to make an underwater crossing of the North Pole. His exceptional service earned him numerous accolades, including five Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Shellback certification, and a Presidential Unit Citation. Bob was highly respected as a leader at each of his duty stations.
He embarked on a second career at Tidewater Communications and Electronics after retiring from the Navy. There he served as the Communications Manager, where he played a pivotal role in the selection, installation, and service of Motorola equipment in the area, particularly for the Virginia Beach Police and Fire Departments.
Outside of his professional life, Bob had a passion for woodworking, furniture making, and electronics repair. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and enjoyed creating beautiful pieces.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Fahye, his son Bob, his son Russell, his daughter Kathy, and his son Chris. He is also survived by his step-daughters Patty, Karen, Lauren, and Sandra. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn and second wife, Jean.
A small graveside family gathering will be held at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial Garden in the Rosewood Memorial Park to honor Bob’s life and military service.
