Sally Davall Buckner King, age 89, died peacefully on March 29, 2021 in Virginia Beach at her home.
Sally was born on November 15, 1931 in Asheville, NC, the oldest of 3 children to her parents, Harley Gaston Buckner, and May Matilda Davall Buckner.
Sally graduated from West Buckham County High School in 1950 and went on to teacher’s college for a year. After going to Virginia Beach to help a cousin care for her children over the summer, Sally received a scholarship to Norfolk General Hospital Nursing School. During this time in Virginia Beach, she met the love of her life, Cassius King.
After a year of courtship, they were married in Asheville, NC. They then moved to Virginia Beach to help Cash’s parents run Flowers by King’s florist shop on Virginia Beach Boulevard. In 1971 they became part owners with Cash’s sister. Over the years, daughters Cynthia Laufer and Cathryn Moran helped run the florist shop. The family also owned land in Chesapeake where they lived for 32 years, and operated greenhouses as K B Plant Farm. They were well known in the florist community with decades of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Cassius Marcellus King; her father, Harley Gaston Buckner; her mother May Matilda Davall Buckner; her brother, Harley Mitchel Buckner; and her son-in-law, James Laufer.
Left to cherish her memories is her sister Joy Bright (Tom); daughters, Cynthia Laufer and Cathryn Moran (Tim); grandchildren, Timothy Moran (Jenne), Thomas Moran (Michelle), Paul Laufer (Autumn) and Abby Paul (Andrew); great grandchildren, Chancellor, Elizabeth, Mia, Lillian and Cassius; sister-in-law, Aileen Buckner; daughter in heart, Sheri Lewis (Paul); and other family and friends.
Memorial services will be held on April 8th at 2:00 pm at Freedom Baptist Church, 308 Centerville Turnpike N., Chesapeake, VA, 23320; and on April 9th at 1:00 pm at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, VA. 23462 with inurnment of Mrs. King in the church’s columbarium.
