VIRGINIA BEACH…Sarah Elizabeth “Beth” Wiggin Bennett died July 30, 2014 at the age of 101. She was born in Seattle Washington November 14, 1912 to Henry Joseph and Alma Reed Wiggin A long-time resident of Arlington and Virginia Beach, Virginia, she was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Elton Lamar “Buck” Bennett; brother Robert Wiggin and sisters Margaret Jinneman and Shirley Anderson.
Beth was employed by Seattle Public Schools and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. where she met her husband. Much of her adult life was spent traveling with him in connection with his work and later via RV. Her travels included trips to Europe and Asia. She was a long-time volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a member of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church. Beth was the longest resident of First Colonial Inn, acting as librarian of the Inn’s library for many years and was a member of the “stitch & chat” group where she pursued her hobby of counted cross stitch.
She is survived by daughter Sarah B. Seeley, son-in-law Bill I.W. Seeley of Virginia Beach, grandsons William B. Seeley of Greensboro, N.C., and Robert M. Seeley of Portland, OR; granddaughter-in-law Melody Seeley and great grandsons Branden D. and Liam B. Seeley of Greensboro, NC. Also surviving are 4 nephews and 3 nieces: Gerald, Kenneth & Richard Anderson and Stephen Jinneman, all of western Washington and Gale Bridger LA, Dawn Cooper TX and Billee Brown AK.
A funeral service will be Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 3201 Edinburg Dr., Virginia Beach 23452. She requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Aidan’s. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family and online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.
