Sheldon William Bowman was born on October 24, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia and was a graduate of Maury High School.
Sheldon “Billy” was a proud Army Officer. He served as a Green Beret in the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Division. Billy received the Purple Heart after being seriously injured in the line of duty. He retired from the Army and began his next career working in the restaurant management for the Whitetower Corporation in Washington, Dc. In 1973 he started as a management trainee for Red Lobster and in 1980 was promoted to regional director for the Southeast Region. Billy continued to climb the corporate ladder and was promoted to Vice President of the Northern Region in 1982.
Billy was predeceased by his parents, Sheldon Bowman and Gladys DuVal, sister Linda Mitchem and nephew William “Billy” Blevins. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of thirty-one years JoAnne, son Olin (Kendra), two granddaughters Alexis and Leah, daughter Dawn (Mark), sister Joyce Spence, nephew Rick (Yvonne) and great nieces Taylor (Spiros) and Jean.
Billy loved God, his country and his family. His two granddaughters were his pride and joy. His hobbies include fishing, golfing, woodworking, range shooting and reading.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Khedive Shrine Temple located at 645 Woodlake Dr. Chesapeake, Va 23320 on Sunday, Jan 21, 2024, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Folds of Honor or Wounded Warrior Project
