Sibylle M. Adlung, 85, passed away peacefully in Williamsburg, VA, on March 30, 2025. Sibylle was born in Berlin, Germany, and finished her schooling in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1961. She worked for the Ford Foundation’s “Artists in Residence” program in Berlin and for Lufthansa Airlines in New York City, where she met her late husband, René. She and René enjoyed overseas assignments with 3M that took them to South Africa, Mexico and Minnesota before settling in Williamsburg in 1998.
Sibylle was intellectually curious, fluent in four languages, an insatiable reader of biographies and history, a world traveler, an accomplished tennis player and a lover of classical music and the arts. She was an engaged wife, mother and grandmother, who cared for René during a prolonged illness, and enjoyed family trips, attending tennis matches, soccer tournaments and school performances. Sibylle’s greatest joy was her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, René C. Adlung, parents, and brother, Achim Otto. Sibylle is survived by her daughter Kirsten Adlung Kellogg of Williamsburg, VA and son, René “Nico” Adlung (Natalie) of Lovettsville, VA, grandchildren Nicholas Kellogg and Talya and Tessa Adlung, brother, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Europe.
Memorial services will be private. The family wishes to express gratitude to devoted caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living community who helped in her final days.
