Silviarena “Silvia” Veneta Flax, 49, died on Sunday, December 13, 2020 T 9:30 a.m. Silvia was born in Kankakee, IL to Sheridan Shafter I and Yvonne Flax. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Veneta Flax; maternal grandmother, Geneva Akers,; parents, Sheridan Shafter I and Yvonne Flax; brother, Weirleis Asa Flax; daughter, Rachel Kishawn Johnson and nephew, Micah Newman.

At the time of her death, Silvia had been employed 14 years with the U.S. Department of Defense. She was a woman of great courage and strength; a daughter, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, friend and mentor. Silvia lived life to the fullest during her short time here. She loved and cherished her family. She also enjoyed her work, entertaining at home and traveling.

Silvia is survived and missed by sisters, Sharon S. Moon, Vibha T. Robinson and Sylvia C. Flax-Price; brothers, Sheridan S. II, Veryl M. and Alpha E. flax; aunts, uncles and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and kindred spirits.

A private memorial service will be held. May she rest in peace.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News office assisted the family with arrangements.
