HAMPTON, VIRGINIA- Stanley Earl Verry, age 89, passed away August 30, 2015 at his residence, with family at his side. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was one of two sons born to Edwin and Mildred (Carpenter) Verry. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife for 64 years, Evelyn (Valentine), and his brother Elmer. Stan had a wonderful career in the tire industry before joining the family business (104 Store) in 1980. The Verrys’ were longstanding residents of Newtown, Connecticut where they both were very involved in their community. They lived at 63 Main Street in the old Beech Memorial Library. Stan was active in civic affairs including being a member of Newtown Hook and Ladder Fire Department and the Newtown Ambulance Association. He was a former Scoutmaster of Troop 70, a Little League Manager, one of the Board of Directors of Newtown’s Borough District, and a founder of the Newtown Labor Day Parade. He and Evelyn were members of the Newtown Congregational Church before transferring membership to Hampton, Va. In 1998, Ev and Stan moved to Hampton Va.
to be closer to Jeff and family. He leaves to cherish his memory son Jeff and wife Nancy, mother of Michelle Sherer (Nathan) and Jeffrey White, Beth Verry, mother of Jeff Verry Jr., Erick Verry (Courtney), and Kristen VanDyke (Jamie), ten greatgrandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He loved his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and spent many hours storytelling with them. He will be sadly missed at The Chamberlin (a Senior Living Community) where he was known for his contagious smile, loving and caring nature, and quick wit.
A memorial service will be held at Zion United Methodist Church, 2109 Seaford Road, Seaford, Va., on September 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. David Magruder and Rev. Tommy Markham officiating.
