Stephanie Ahmuty Emerson, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born on September 20, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, Stephanie was raised in Severna Park, Maryland. She graduated from Severna Park High School and went on to earn two Associate degrees from Anne Arundel Community College, where she received her Registered Nurse credential in 1979. Later, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University.
Stephanie devoted her career to caring for others. As a registered nurse, she worked in pediatrics and neonatal intensive care before spending the final 20 years of her professional life as a school nurse with Virginia Beach City Public Schools. As the wife of a Navy officer, she also dedicated many years to raising her two sons and supporting her family through military life.
Stephanie had a special affection for dolls, babies, kittens, and all things that needed a little extra love and care. She leaves behind a cherished feline companion, Missy.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Don Emerson; her son Patrick Emerson, 34, of Savannah, Georgia; and her son Alexander Emerson, 32, of Virginia Beach, VA.
Stephanie will be laid to rest at the Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Maryland, at a later date.
In keeping with Stephanie’s wishes, no formal celebration of life will be held. Instead, spend a day at the beach, listen to the oldies, and share a dance in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA.
