Stephen Charles Kurz, 72, passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2021 with his family at his side. Stephen was born in Hoboken, New Jersey and grew up in South Toms River. He was the son of the late Charles Francis Kurz and Margaret Mary Whalen.
Stephen served in the United States Navy for eight years and was a member of the Submarine Service, serving on the USS Bluefish (SSN675) and retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools Department of Technology where he worked as a Network Specialist. For over twenty years he spent his Saturdays at Langley Speedway where he leaves behind many friends and great memories.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Nancy Moran Kurz, three sons, Matthew S. Kurz, Ryan C. Kurz (Natalia), Kevin T. Kurz and his two beloved granddaughters, Lauren and Valentina. He also leaves behind two sisters, Diane Kurz Henneberg, Alica Kurz Wurple (Mark) his brother Peter T. Kurz (Alaina), twelve nieces and nephews, eight great-nieces and nephews and many friends that were considered part of our family.
Stephen’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Thomas M. Jones and the staff at First Colonial Family Practice, the Emergency Department, ICU, CCU and Oncology Departments at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and Sentara Hospice Services for their tender, loving care care. Special thanks to Dr. Jessica Kaiser Mendelsohn, a long-time family friend, for coming from South Carolina to comfort and care for Stephen and our family during his final days.
Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family with arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad or The Langley Speedway Fan Club.
