62, passed away on April 8, peacefully in his sleep at Sentara Hospice House. Steven Minor was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on May 13, 1955 to Theresa Yvonne (Worrell) Minor and Gary Vincent Minor. Steven spent his childhood growing up in Washington, DC and later in Prince George’s County, MD. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll Senior High School, where was an accomplished football athlete. He played on several WCAC championship teams in the 60s and 70s under Maus Collins. He was a three-time CIAA championship team player in 1974, 1975 and 1976 at Norfolk State University. Other highlights of his football career included selection as a Black College All American, All American, and to the All-Star Bowl game. Steven was recruited by several professional teams including the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals. He joined the Dallas Cowboys before suffering a knee injury which ultimately ended his professional career. Shortly thereafter, Steven entered the field of substance abuse and mental health counseling, serving adults and adolescents. He worked for local District of Columbia agencies for many years. He maintained his love of football by serving as a high school football coach at T.C.Williams in Alexandria, VA and his alma mater, Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C.
In 2004, he moved to Virginia Beach. Over the past few years, Steven suffered several serious health conditions, which eventually claimed his life. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Marilyn; sons Jason (Miriam) and Zachary; grandchildren Heaven, Javen and Ari; mother, Theresa; brother, Michael (Donna); sister, Desiree; extended family and friends.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in Maryland at a later date. The family is sincerely appreciative of the many kind and caring healthcare providers who assisted in his care and treatment.
