Sue Mead Summerson Wells – Virginia Beach
Sue Mead Summerson Wells, 77, of Virginia Beach died at home with her husband on the evening of December 27, 2015. Born in Durham, North Carolina, Sue was the daughter of the late Champe Fitzhugh Grant Summerson and George William Summerson. She grew up in Bristol, Virginia, attended Virginia Intermont College and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a devoted mother, wife and professional. A dedicated high school English teacher for over twenty years, she touched the lives of young people in many states. She was a devout member of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church serving her Lord and her church in many capacities. She focused her energies on the Pastoral Care Commission seeing to the special needs of countless parishioners. Before moving to Virginia Beach in 1987, she and her husband lived in numerous places, including Illinois, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, California and several places in Virginia. She is survived by her loving companion, soul mate, and husband of 54 years, Irvin Beech Wells, III; two beloved sons, William Bradford Wells (Sharon) and Mitchell Mead Wells (Peyton) and three grandchildren Sarah Jean Wells, Rachel Mead Wells and Elizabeth Page Wells, all of Richmond. She is also survived by her sister, Champe Fitzhugh Summerson Hyatt and her husband Don David Hyatt of Charlotte, North Carolina; her brother George William Summerson, Jr. and his wife Deborah Nelms Summerson of Macon, Georgia, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Her life was enriched by many people who gave her love, laughter, kindness, and cherished friendship. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 3201 Edinburgh Drive, Virginia Beach.
