Susan Louise Schoeppler, 74, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on May 11, 2026.
She was born on July 4, 1951, in East Lansing, Michigan, Ohio, to Jake & Vi Schoeppler (née Vipond).
Susan graduated from Hanover Park High School in New Jersey and moved to Bass Lake with her family in 1969. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1973 and enlisted in the United States Army. She served as a Captain on active duty in the U.S. and Germany and subsequently worked for 25 years with the civil service at Forts Monroe and Eustis in Virginia.
Susan’s life was rich with deep friendships and relationships. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends to places including England & Scotland, Germany, and throughout Europe exploring her heritage. One of her great joys in life came from her beloved dogs, Tiger, Cozy, Rover, Huckleberry, and Shandi. She was a rare combination of quick wit and deep empathy; she could make anyone laugh, yet she always took the time to truly listen. Her kindness and generosity made her a natural friend to all.
Susan is survived by her loving siblings, Kurt (Lori) Schoeppler of Waite Hill, Ohio, Scot Schoeppler of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; her beloved nieces and nephews, Rachel Grider (Drew), Kelly Schoeppler (Noelle), Erin Moses (Nick), Jake, and Drew; and great nieces and nephews Lilah, Shep, Gracie, Amelia, and George.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and “Vi” Schoeppler.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024. A Graveside Service will be begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Maple Hill Cemetery 13480 Auburn Road, Chardon.
