Susan Elizabeth Reynolds Burrows passed away December 5, 2024 in Chesapeake Virginia. Susan was born October 3, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ralph “Rox” Harvey Reynolds and Lida “Tiny” Lopez Reynolds. Susan passed away from her loving family to be reunited with parents Rox and Tiny and her predeceased husband, Commander Jack Joseph Burrows U.S. Navy. She was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University and she later taught at Cornell University.
Susan was always an adventuresome one who combined an outgoing personality with a firm grasp of a moral compass. She swam with dolphins, white water rafted in Alaska, Parasailed, rode camels in Egypt, zip lined at age 79, drove a camper with her mother and children all over the country exploring every corner of America for many summers. She followed Jack’s ships around the world and sometimes brought her children to explore the Mediterranean and Italy while he flew overseas and even had an audience with the Pope. She enjoyed wildlife photography and spent extensive time bird watching. Susan also enjoyed gardening and was very proud of her recent “Foundation Garden” at the family farm in Roxbury NY. It serves as a sanctuary celebrating their 40th Anniversary in July 2000. She was a member of the Bay Colony Garden Club and a volunteer at the Virginia Beach General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and Audubon among many others.
Susan installed a deep sense of morality in her family that will serve as their spiritual guide long after she is gone.
Susan is survived by her two children John Reynolds Burrows (Zena the wife) with his three children Ashley (Paul), Amy and Zachary and Julie Stark Burrows Fraim (Tommy the husband) with her three children Trey (Kayla), Jack and Riley
Susan was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and came from a long line of American Patriots including Major-General John Stark who fought at Bunker Hill.
She lived a wonderful, loving, joyful life of 88 years and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Service is December 27, 2024 at 11am at her church, Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Wounded Warrior in her name.
