Wilmington – Ted W. Foster joyfully went to his heavenly father on May 3, 2021 less than one month short of his 87th birthday. He was lovingly cared for at Riverside Hospital in Newport News Virginia after suddenly suffering a stroke at home. Ted was surrounded by his family as he peacefully breathed his last breath.
Ted was a man’s man, a wonderful family man and most importantly a man of God.
John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Beginning as a young man, Ted consistently proclaimed three things, his love for the Lord, his desire to retire early and the belief the Lord will come in the Spring. Gods favor allowed Ted to achieve his retirement goal after 35 years with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, NC. His retirement life was filled with his love for the church, golf, bridge and a life of leisure at the Arbors in Newport News. His enjoyment of retirement was only overshadowed by his love for his wife of over 64 years.
Ted met the love of his life, Gladys, while working for a summer temp job that had them both at Reynolds. Ted had a car, Gladys didn’t and the rest is history. Ted is survived by his wife, Gladys; their two children: son, David and wife, Carol of Wilmington, NC, daughter, Alice Edgerton and husband, Ricky of Yorktown, VA; grandchildren, Amanda Pierce, Renea Matter and husband, Dan, Jenny Edgerton and husband, Matt, Gabrielle Dreikorn and husband, Christopher, Joshua Smith; and great-granddaughter, Christabella Pierce. Ted is also survived by his brother, Dan and wife, Martha of Reidsville, NC.
Ted will be honored in a celebration of life on his birthday, May 28, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a donation to your local hospice agency.
