Terry Ann Hairston 65, peacefully entered into eternal life on February 28, 2025 with her caring and loving sister by her side. She was born February 9, 1960 in Roanoke, Virginia. Terry was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Mae Hairston and father Howard Petty.
At an early age Terry was baptized and attended Loudon Avenue Christian Church until she relocated.
She was educated in Roanoke City Schools and a 1978 graduate of Patrick Henry High School. She attended one year at Ferrum College.
Upon relocating she spent six years in Kernersville, NC where she worked in retail/food services. In the early 90’s she joined her sister Cheryl in the Newport News/Hampton, Virginia area where she called home for thirty-five years. She worked for ESA, Hampton Inn, and Danny’s Deli for twenty-eight years. Terry was also known as the “Cake Lady”. She enjoyed making cakes for friends and planned events.
Terry never met a stranger, she was a loyal, loving and cheerful person. As well as an exceptional, outstanding sister!
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted sister Cheryl E. Hairston (Gina Fowler) Richmond, VA, One aunt, Mary Catherine Neely, Morristown, NJ.
A host of first cousins, Hairston’s, Petty’s, Randolph’s,Hale’s, McCoys’, Neely’s, and Brown-Smith, as well as many loving and devoted friends/extended family.
A celebration of Life will be held in May in Roanoke, Virginia (TBA)

Sometimes it’s hard to understand why some things have to be. But in his wisdom, God has planned beyond our power to see. So looking back in tenderness along the paths we’ve trod. We cherish the years we had with you, and leave the rest to God.
