Born September 23, 1936, in the bustling town of Lynn, MA, Thelma Leona Clark was a true New England original with a wit as sharp as her quilting needles. Her journey came to its earthly end on April 27, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 89. Rest assured, she’s probably already found a heavenly book club and is sharing a laugh with St. Peter himself.
Thelma spent her working years as an Insurance Technician in the Life Insurance industry, where she undoubtedly kept everyone on their toes with her humor and knack for solving puzzles—the latter being equally as helpful in paperwork as it was in her beloved mystery novels. Her colleagues will miss her quick quips and ability to find levity in the most mundane tasks.
Her life could be pieced together like one of her cherished quilts—full of warmth, color, and a few unexpected patterns that made the final product all the more beautiful. She had a soft spot for quilting and mystery books, often musing that these interests were quite alike. “Both require patience and a keen eye,” she’d say with a wink.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Freeman Clark, and their sons, Richard L. Clark and Paul J. Clark. She leaves behind a legacy stitched tightly into the lives of her daughter Thelma Wilson and husband Dan; grandchildren Jessica Hinson, Paul Hinson, Katie Hinson, Kevin Clark, Diana Clark, and Bobby Clark; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild who’ll have to hear about her legendary humor through stories passed down.
A private burial will take place at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Peabody, MA, where Thelma will rejoin Freeman, ensuring their laughter continues to echo through eternity.
Please post condolences to the family at the Cremation Society of Virginia website, where they can smile through tears at the stories of a woman who lived life with a needle in one hand and a joke in the other.
The world is a little less colorful without her, but her legacy of love, laughter, and perfectly placed punchlines will forever keep us warm.
