Theodore Michael Dumont “Ted” passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family at home on March 1, 2021. Ted was born on May 8, 1945 in Oskaloosa Iowa to his parents Bernard and Catherine (Gregan) Dumont. He graduated from Olds High School in Iowa. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy where he would remain until his retirement in 1994. Ted “The Incredible Hulk” as he was known to his squadron mates, was known to carry tailhook shanks that weigh in excess of 250 lb across the deck and was an arm wrestling champ for the fleet. He was known as “the arm” but was always a good natured giant. He would spend his whole enlisted career at NAS Oceana. During his stay at NAS Oceana he was in charge of many restorations of the jets on static display at the gate for many years. During his time in VA he met and fell in love with the love of his life Macil “Patty” Dumont who he married in 1977. They remained in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake until their deaths just 5 days apart.
Ted loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisher. He spent much of his retired years fishing or in a tree stand. He was also a devout Catholic and a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church.
Ted was predeceased by his mother and father Catherine and Bernard Dumont. His sister Bernadine Dumont and his beloved wife Patty Dumont. He is survived by his sons Bobby Settles of VA, Mark (Georgia) Settles of NC, Granddaughter Amber (Michael) Winslow of NC, Great Grand grandson Colt Winslow. Sisters Marlene (Ron) Honaker of MO, Patricia (Denny) Klumper of IA, Martha (John) Lynn of IA, Rita (Gene) Klumper of MO and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions a small private ceremony will be held in his honor.
